The Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia Teaching Fellowship

The Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia Teaching Fellowship is a dynamic, full-time program that provides hands-on training and academic coursework for aspiring educators.

Designed as one of Philadelphia’s premier teacher residency programs, this fellowship prepares participants to address educational disparities while earning their PA teaching certification. Through a year-long combination of classroom experience, mentorship, and university-led training, the program equips future teachers to excel in teacher jobs that transform lives.

Program Highlights

  • Comprehensive Training: The fellowship begins with a teaching apprenticeship, allowing participants to assist experienced educators while gradually taking on more responsibilities.
  • Certification Pathway: Residents complete a year-long certification program at Drexel University, gaining expertise in best practices and foundational teaching concepts. Tuition and certification-related expenses are fully covered.
  • Supportive Mentorship: Each resident works closely with a certified mentor teacher, receiving guidance and real-world classroom exposure.
  • Professional Development: Participants engage in workshops and development programs offered by Drexel, the Center for Black Educator Development, and Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia.

Responsibilities

Residents take an active role in supporting mentor teachers to provide a high-quality, college-preparatory education aligned with Pennsylvania Common Core standards. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in curriculum planning, lesson delivery, and student engagement.
  • Helping assess student progress and using data to tailor instruction.
  • Promoting a welcoming and safe learning environment while upholding Boys’ Latin’s mission.
  • Supporting outside-the-classroom initiatives like Saturday School, summer academies, and extended-day programs.

The fellowship also includes preparation for certification exams, with ample support to ensure success in obtaining a PA teaching certification

The teaching fellowship is grounded in the vision of Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia, which aims to prepare students for success in college and beyond through a focus on scholarship, integrity, and brotherhood.
